WHY I PAINT
THE WAY I PAINT

I love the high colour of oils.
I love the gentle effect of watercolour.
I love the way you can blend pastel.
The use of acrylics is so versatile there seems no end to what you can do.

My feelings direct each painting. As in my dreams, I try to keep the image in my head until I can get the painting started. Then I paint as near to that image as possible. [Racing Dogs]

Most of the flower paintings come from my garden. I love my Lilies and Fuchsias. The Poppies are from the hedgerows, beautiful delicate fine petals in cadmium red. Depending on what the finished painting is going to be, I will use any of the paint mediums.

Some paintings you see when you are just sitting in the garden daydreaming. Fantastic colours and images. [Eyes Closed] These I paint in oils, the reasons I think are, because they are such vivid colours. The sunsets again are as near as I can remember from driving to and fro to Hunstanton. The skies are so big, so full of drama and strong colour, or drifting with soft paleness that goes on forever. Again it’s just trying to remember. For me I love painting sunset in Pastel.
