Kay Manning - Paintings & Sculpture

Kay is passionately involved in creating art in its many forms, and has been all her life; from set design, sculpture, drawing and painting, to cartoon and technical illustration.

Kay studied art at St Albans School of Art; Camberwell School of Art, sculpture and ceramics; West Cheshire College, graphics and technical illustration; Ruskin University, Cambridge, BA Art and Art History.

Kay illustrated for many years before teaching full time. Her paintings are her response to nature and those around her and create an impact through their strong colours and contrast, enhancing and exaggerating the light and form found in nature.

Kay is currently focussing on portrait sculpture and welcomes commissions (contact details below). "I see portrait sculpture as drawing in 3-D. I aim to produce a likeness that captures and enhances the nature of the sitter’s inner and outer beauty, life and vitality." Kay also sees the possibility of communicating ideas through abstract shapes. The sculpture "Convergence" is about the convergence of ideas in a research environment, when scientists work together to solve problems.

In the past Kay has exhibited in many joint exhibitions including the WNAA, and won a sculpture commission for a sculpture now placed at the entrance of Capital Park, Fulbourne, Cambridge. She has recently been selected to exhibit a portrait sculpture at the SWA exhibition in the Mall Gallery, London.
