John Giller

Painter

A brief history:

Redecorating the living space of the family home with a different colour was becoming a regular occurrence and on this occasion one wall painted a deep and warm shade of red seemed like a good idea in theory, but upon completion it was obvious that nothing in the room harmonised with the freshly tinted plaster. A pure wool rug, a selection of scatter cushions and a few ornamental accessories all in varying shades of red purchased during a shopping frenzy the next day soon brought the room together, but there was something missing. One plain wall, covered in a complimentary pigment needed adorning and it required a real statement.

Although he has been painting and drawing for many years, without knowing it, John Giller was about to produce his first artwork for the GILLERHEAD Studio, even though it had yet to be thought of. Using photographs from the family album, and his trusty computer he set to work manipulating images that could be utilised and after many hours of mouse clicking he had created a pair of portraits depicting his wife and himself that he found really exciting. A large blank cotton canvas, a pencil and many hours of painting with thick rich acrylic paint, combined with the skills of a new and up and coming contemporary artist produced a stunning piece of visual art that became canvas 001.

It wasn’t long before family and friends observing this initial artwork back in early 2005 wanted to own an original and unique portrait and now the GILLERHEAD Studio produces works for private and public collections alike.

When looking at any of John’s paintings you may notice a number on the side of the canvas. This is the production number. Each number is individual to the artwork, which shows when it was completed and is catalogued together with other information such as canvas size and colours used as a record of production.

The first canvas produced for the GILLERHEAD Studio was 001 and is dated 2005. You will also find a date and a unique pictorial signature, known as a GILLERHEAD. When owning any of the artworks, these elements together with a certificate of authenticity are guarantee that the canvas is a genuine hand drawn and hand painted one off original created by the UK artist John Giller for The GILLERHEAD Studio.
