Helena Anderson - Painter

Helena has lived in King’s Lynn for the past 38 years. With her husband Barry, she ran a large Hotel for 20 years, and painted for a hobby, time permitting.

In 1990 they decided on a complete change of career, and bought a newly built shop, from which they sold Art Materials. Above the Shop was the Gallery Coffee Shop, and next to that a Studio where Helena ran a Painting for Pleasure Club and various workshops. The whole idea was that customers bought their art materials, learned how to use them in the Studio, had them framed, and then exhibited them for sale in the Coffee shop. It was a concept that worked well.

Now they have retired from the Art Centre, Helena wants to spend her time painting the animals and people that she loves to depict. Trying to get a “likeness” is a great challenge that she enjoys.

Helena also likes to clean and restore old or grimy oil paintings. There is great satisfaction in seeing the original colours gradually appearing.
