Jo Rolfe - Sculptor

I was born in London and my father who was a commercial artist, always encouraged me to draw, paint and make things.

Eight years ago, after a life time of teaching in primary
schools, I spend a day in the studio of Beatrice Hoffman. She was inspirational, her sculptures are magnificent and I discovered a love of working with clay. I started to make heads and figures on my kitchen table and after these had been fired by a friend, I waxed them, enjoying the sheen that wax gives and preferring it to the harder gloss of glaze.

Now, I have my own studio and kiln and am experimenting with different clays and techniques.

I recently became involved in the planning and delivery of a series of courses to promote creativity in the environment in the Foundation Stage and I worked with a school in King’s Lynn to produce a painted panel for the 800 Year Celebrations.
